SCHOOLS CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!
My 12 year old nephew was assigned to read the short story “The Lottery” in school just two weeks ago. If you have not read this story, I don’t mean to give it away but it is about a town’s annual tradition of stoning someone to death and the town is very non-chalant (SP?) about it. Although a well written story – it is disturbing material especially for someone of my nephew’s age. My sister argued over the teachings of the story, but she was told that it was supposed to teach the students tolerance and other topics.

If my nephew had written this story or drew pictures depicting this, can you imagine the reprocussions by the school and other officials? We all played games shot-em-up games as kids, and the suspension is rediculous, but what happens when the school introduces forms of killing people?

rediculous! Maybe the parent or relative is in the military…maybe the family likes to hunt.
When I was in school half the class would have been suspended, kids drew all kinds of stuff in their notebooks and on their papers all day long like that and none of them turned out to be people that did bad stuff!

This is a bunch of crap. I remember watching cartoons as a child. The hunter chasing and shooting as Bugs Bunny with a gun.

I think what would have been better is a talk with him that you shouldn’t shoot people or be violent to people.

But a suspension is stupid. And an over reaction.
