Tonight’s guest:

Jason B. Jones New Podcaster Investigates the Unsolved Murder of his Own Grandmother.

Knock Knock: The Unsolved Murders of Betty Jones and Kathryn Crigler is the haunting, captivating and very personal story of the host, Jason B. Jones.

Jones said he was introduced to evil at 10 years old when his grandmother, Betty Jones, was gruesomely murdered in a case that would get national attention. Nearly 30 years later, with no active leads, he is opening his own look into the so-called “Labor Day Murders.”

The in-depth podcast launches September 3rd. Listeners will hear interviews with the current lead investigator, family members, journalists and people close to Betty Jones. Jason B. Jones even sits down with the current owner of the house she was murdered in. “Growing up, it was a taboo topic that we didn’t talk about because of the pain and the questions that came along with it. As I became an adult, and grew more curious about my past, who I was and how this traumatic event affected my childhood; I quickly realized there weren’t many answers,” said Jones.

Like other true crime podcasts like Serial and Up and Vanished, Jones hopes he can find real answers for the small town in Mississippi, his family, and himself, “I’m learning not just how she died, but more importantly how she lived.”

Jason B. Jones works in the music industry as Creative Director at Integrity Music based in Nashville, Tennessee and is also creator of the podcast ‘Knock Knock: The Unsolved Murders of Betty Jones and Kathryn Crigler.’

Jason grew up with a love for music that eventually led him to a career in the music industry where he now supports musicians, amplifying their music and message. Over the last 15 years, he has worked closely with countless directors, photographers, writers, etc to create inspiring multi-media marketing from videos, imaging, digital design, branding, etc. Jason has worked alongside artists such as TobyMac, Amy Grant, Chris Tomlin, Michael W. Smith and Kari Jobe, to name a few.

Knock Knock Podcast focuses on the violent unsolved murders of Betty Jones and Kathryn Crigler. On Monday, September 3rd 1990, they were gruesomely raped and killed in Starkville, Mississippi in an unsolved case known as the “Labor Day Murders”. Their story received national attention on America’s Most Wanted, artist renderings of the suspect have been made and updated, DNA tests have been run and rerun. But still, the killer has never been found. 27 years later, this case remains cold and unsolved. Throughout this podcast we will dig into the details of this crime, make strides toward uncovering answers, and seek justice for the lives of these victims.

Tonight’s Guests:

  • Author Michael Bishop will be discussing his new book, ‘A Murder in Music City’
    • Nashville 1964. Eighteen-year-old babysitter Paula Herring is murdered in her home while her six-year-old brother apparently sleeps through the grisly event. A few months later a judge’s son is convicted of the crime. Decades after the slaying, Michael Bishop, a private citizen, stumbles upon a secret file related to the case and with the help of some of the world’s top forensic experts–including forensic psychologist Richard Walter (aka “the living Sherlock Holmes”)–he uncovers the truth. What really happened is completely different from what the public was led to believe. Now, for the very first time, Bishop reveals the true story. In this true-crime page-turner, the author lays out compelling evidence that a circle of powerful citizens were key participants in the crime and the subsequent cover-up. The ne’er-do-well judge’s son, who was falsely accused and sent to prison, proved to be the perfect setup man. The perpetrators used his checkered history to conceal the real facts for over half a century.
  • Author Marcel Danesi will be discussing his new book, ‘Murder in Plain English’
    • This is the first book to examine murder through the written word–not only the writings of the killers themselves, but also the story of murder as told in literary fiction and the crime dramas that are now a staple of film and television. The authors–a criminologist specializing in cold cases, written evidence, and forensic science, and an anthropologist who has dealt with the signs and ciphers of organized crime and street gangs in his previous work–are widely recognized experts in this emerging specialty field. Based on extensive research and interviews with convicted murderers, the book emphasizes the often-overlooked narrative impulse that drives killers, with the authors explaining how both mass and serial murderers perceive their crimes as stories and why a select few are compelled to commit these stories to writing whether before, during, or after their horrific acts. The book also analyzes the written work of killers, using a combination of machine-based linguistic patterning, predictive modeling, and symbolic interpretation, to make sense of the screeds of everyone from the Son of Sam and the Zodiac Killer to the Columbine attackers, the Unabomber, and the recent spate of mass shooters using social media as their preferred narrative platform.
  • T.J. Ward – Private Investigator will be discussing the latest in the Natalee Holloway case and the newest discoveries in the case of the missing and declared deceased Alabama teen who went missing on Aruba in 2005. The latest discoveries are being documented on Oxygen TV.
